Casa Amparo Facilities
Casa Amparo is located in Reynosa, Mexico which is in the state of Tamaulipas. Reynosa is located 5 miles south of McAllen, just across the Rio Grande River, and has a population of 1.2 million people.
The walls around Casa Amparo enclose four main buildings and a church. There is a convent which provides the necessary amenities for 25 nuns. Three other buildings serve as residences for the children.
The first is a two-story cement block and stucco residence for small children. This building contains a dormitory, kitchen, dining and living rooms, nun's quarters, baths, storage and a two-room bakery. The building has a maximum capacity of 50 children ages 6 through 10.
The residence for middle-aged children (10-13 years old) is a one-story cement and stucco building consisting of a dormitory, baths, nun's quarters, sleeping quarters for special adult women, and a vocational training room. This building houses 15 girls and 3 older handicapped women. The residence for teenagers is still under construction. This two-story structure contains dormitory, nun's quarters, baths, kitchen, dining and living rooms. About 30 teen-agers ages 13-19 live here.
There is also a 1,600 square foot one-story church which seats 150. These facilities, while humble, are a blessing and safe haven for the children served at Casa Amparo.
